Bankruptcies Rise Nearly 40%
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008The American Bankruptcy Institute says that the number of bankruptcies in America has went up nearly 40% in the last year.
In 2006, 573,203 residents in the United States filed for bankruptcy. In 2007, more than 801,840 United States citizens filed for bankruptcy. What is the cause of this jump? Studies showed that the majority of the filings were caused by the home mortgage crisis. For 2008, the American Bankruptcy Institute predicts the number or people filing for bankruptcy will rise another 7.5%. The American Bankruptcy Institute also predicts that more jobs will be lost this year.
