Charleen received a call from Gloysteins Thursday December 15th
at 5 PM. Two men had found a cat and were bringing her in to be
checked.

She met them at the clinic and saw little Nadia for the first
time. She was being carried by Casey Kinnison from York who along
with his friend Nathan Towell had found her in a field south of
Benedict.

They had found some paper towels in their truck and were
holding them to Nadia’s bleeding wound.

Casey talked softly to Nadia while he held her as she looked up
at him with her trusting eyes, like she knew that she was going to
be okay, that she could depend on us to take care of her.

Trudge inside after a day out in the cold and discover what so many already know — very little compares to the golden goodness of a hot bowl of chicken soup.

For Patty Brams, co-owner along with her husband, Rick, of Jesse David’s Kosher Deli in Manalapan, chicken soup has been a lifelong source of comfort and tradition that evokes nostalgic memories of home and family.

“Growing up, my grandmother would make chicken soup for our family every week,” she said. “We’d have it every Friday night for dinner and again on Saturday for lunch, and I ended up doing the exact same thing with my husband and children.”

At Fred Murry’s Kosher Deli in Freehold Township, chicken...

Songwriter Burt Bacharach has signed a lucrative new deal to reveal all about his fascinating life in a memoir.

The man behind hits like The Look of Love, I Say a Little Prayer and Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head is currently writing the tome for publishing house HarperCollins with biographer Robert Greenfield.

The book will be titled Anyone Who Had a Heart and is expected to feature candid revelations about his longtime songwriting partnership with Hal David, his marriages...

Christopher Gore brought this class action against his wireless services provider, Alltel Communications, LLC, for failing to honor the terms of an agreement he previously made with a company Alltel acquired, but Alltel moved to compel arbitration in light of a broad arbitration clause included in its service agreement with Gore. The district court denied that motion, concluding that a genuine dispute existed regarding the scope of the arbitration clause. We disagree. Because Gores claims are based in part on the products and services he received under the Alltel Agreement, we find that the arbitration clause applies, and so we reverse.

Bereavement – The ‘festive season’ has been a very sad one for us this year with bereavement after bereavement leaving families grieving and empty places in our midst from mid-November onwards, so that Xmas and New Year passed almost unnoticed.

Neilina Macleod, 8 Aird, aged 86, our retired district nurse, passed away at Ospadal nan Eilean after a short illness.

She was a person who gave exceptional service to both Uig and Bernera communities as nurse over many years, being one of the old school of nursing, capable of coping very professionally with every demand community health care could make of her and very supportive to us all in times...

“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.”

This quote resonates with me. I believe it’s true of individuals but also of entire communities.

By providing housing people can afford, HRB has literally opened doors to folks who would otherwise not be able to be part of our community. Our actions have helped give our community depth, diversity and resources beyond measure.

How do you put a value on the impact of keeping a beloved family in our community?

Or welcoming a household from a different culture or life experience that wants to live on Bainbridge and share that experience with us? Multiply that by all the families we’ve...

Have you ever thought that you should write your memoirs? Or do you wish you could drum up inspiration to write a story? A poem? Or even the beginnings of a blog?

This winter session, Courtenay Recreation is offering two writing courses to get you inspired and off to a good start.

Write Your Life Story has been running for many years through the Evergreen Seniors Centre. It is a course that breaks down the monolithic idea of a memoir into shorter, manageable vignettes.

Its amazing how we think we have to move chronologically through our life story, says the instructor, Traci Skuce. When I tell people that we are going to proceed in a non-linear fashion – and in small...
